Maker’s Mark at No Format Gallery [Group Show]
Inconclusive Drawing [see the video here] is a video record of abstract marks on acetate made to explore the tensions between creation and destruction, asking what we create in the act of destruction and what is destroyed when we create? Part animation, part live action and with an improvised soundtrack created as a response to the dynamic of the work’s progression and to its subsequent transformation.
Andrew Gallacher has a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the University of Kent and his work has been exhibited at Tate Modern. He is an audio-painter, text-sculptor and image-wrangler exploring the liminal interstice between constructed narrative and periphrastic assembly.

Data For Data’s Sake #2 – Shredding
Tate Modern
Collaborative making at Tate Modern, 5th floor, Blavatnik building on 3rd and 4th February 2018. Data for Data’s Sake (2018) invited visitors to take government data about UK government art collections (including the Tate’s) personalise it, shred it and cage it, to produce new works of data.
XML Data
Using XML data from the government data website (government art collection) for performance reading/singing of raw data.
Shredding the data
Highlighting/colouring A4 sheets to produce new ‘works of Data’ + inviting visitors to make their own works from shredding the data and caging the data. Works of Data which turn into works of art, which must, of course, be destroyed… because: Continue reading “Data For Data’s Sake #2 – Shredding”

Andrew Gallacher: Data for Data’s Sake
Performance
I will deliver spirited readings of this data. Perhaps I will stand at a lectern and be lit theatrically. I may wear a costume – perhaps academic robes, or a clerical surplice, or the evening dress of a concert tenor. These performances could last about 5 minutes and be performed to fit in with other events taking place in the venue. I envisage 4 such performances on each of the two days. Muster Station: The School of Beginnings
Muster Station is a rethinking and regrouping; an evolving group of artists that emerged as a direct consequence of the closure of their art school and the need to produce a new imagination for their agency. Continue reading “Muster Station: The School of Beginnings”
